- What is a listserv? A listserv is a mailing
list software program that automatically distributes email on
a particular subject. Listservs allow you to communicate with
other people who have subscribed to the same list. When you
submit a message to the server, your message is relayed to all
those on the listserv. You receive messages from other participants
via E-mail. It is similar to computer conferencing (or chat
rooms), but a listserv is asynchronous.
- Listserv Etiquette: Here are some tips for
practicing listserv etiquette.
- Keep messages brief
- Summarize the message you are responding to
- Stick to intended topics of the listserv
- Don’t use all uppercase
- Include an opening and a closing to your message
- Differentiate between public and private messages
